Environmental Testing

A2Z offers a variety of environmental testing options and can accommodate a wide range of test specifications / standards.  These are some of the environmental testing we perform:

  • Process of cycling through two temperature extremes, typically at relatively high rates of change.  It is an environmental stress test used in evaluating product reliability as well as in manufacturing to catch early-term, latent defects by inducing failure through thermal fatigue

Temperature Cycling

Different kinds of testing are used to assess the performance of products in severe environments, these kinds of testing are used to show the capability of the product to work under specific conditions:

Thermal Shock

Vibration - Torsional, Axial, Longitudinal and Lateral

Electrical Stress

Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT)

  • Type of rapidly transient mechanical load.  By definition, it is a mechanical load caused by a rapid change of temperature of a certain point.  It can be also extended to the case of a thermal gradient, which makes different parts of an object expand by different amounts

  • Process of cycling through two temperature extremes, typically at relatively high rates of change.  It is an environmental stress test used in evaluating product reliability as well as in manufacturing to catch early-term, latent defects by inducing failure through thermal fatigue

  • HALT is a test technique called test-to-fail, where a product is tested until failure. HALT does not help to determine or demonstrate the reliability value or failure probability in field. Many accelerated life tests are test-to-pass, meaning they are used to demonstrate the product life or reliability.

  • It is highly recommended to perform HALT in the initial phases of product development to uncover weak links in a product, so that there is better chance and more time to modify and improve the product.

  • HALT uses several stress factors (decided by a Test Engineer) and/or the combination of various factors. Commonly used stress factors are temperature, vibration, and humidity for electronics and mechanical products. Other factors can include voltage, current, power cycling and combinations of them.

  • A2Z simulates heat transfers within a product and analyzes the performance of the product in various environmental conditions, including stresses related to foreseeable user abuse conditions. This capability is especially useful in evaluating thermal management aspects of lithium ion battery packs. A2Z has the capability of monitoring and modeling the performance of various components in real time under various thermal conditions. This includes determining hot spots and temperature rise and distribution inside battery packs, power supplies, chargers, and host devices.
